SRF Limited has announced plans to expand its manufacturing capabilities with a proposed ₹600 crore aluminium foil production facility in Madhya Pradesh. The project is expected to strengthen the company’s presence in the aluminium foil segment and support the growing demand for specialised materials across various industries.
According to the company’s regulatory filing, the proposed facility will manufacture aluminium foil for applications in lithium-ion batteries and sodium-ion battery technologies, along with energy storage and electric vehicles. These sectors are gaining importance as industries increasingly focus on electrification, advanced battery technologies and efficient energy solutions.
The new manufacturing unit is planned at the existing site of the company’s wholly owned subsidiary in Madhya Pradesh. The project is expected to be implemented in two phases, with an investment of ₹300 crore allocated to each phase. This phased approach will allow the company to develop its production capacity in stages while supporting its long-term business expansion plans.
The facility is expected to have an annual production capacity of approximately 12,000 metric tonnes. The planned investment reflects the growing importance of aluminium foil as a key material in battery manufacturing, particularly as demand for electric vehicles and energy storage solutions continues to evolve.
Aluminium foil plays an important role in several industrial applications, including battery production, where material quality and performance are essential. With the expansion of electric mobility and renewable energy storage, manufacturers are exploring ways to strengthen supply chains and increase access to specialised materials.
For SRF Limited, the proposed investment represents an opportunity to diversify and expand its product portfolio while positioning itself in emerging industrial segments. The development could also contribute to the growth of advanced manufacturing infrastructure in Madhya Pradesh.
As the project progresses through its planned phases, its implementation will be an important step in the company’s strategy to serve evolving market requirements. The facility highlights the increasing role of domestic manufacturing investments in supporting India’s broader ambitions in electric mobility, battery technology and energy storage.
SRF Limited’s proposed ₹600 crore investment marks a strategic move towards aluminium foil manufacturing for advanced battery applications. With a planned capacity of 12,000 metric tonnes annually, the facility could help the company tap into emerging industrial opportunities while supporting the expanding ecosystem for electric vehicles and energy storage in India.
