Boosting MP as India’s Premier Film Destination
Madhya Pradesh, already recognized as one of the most film-friendly states in India, has taken a significant step forward with the approval of its Film Tourism Promotion Policy 2025. The policy, greenlit by the state cabinet, offers substantial financial incentives and subsidies to filmmakers, reinforcing MP’s position as an ideal film shooting destination.
The new policy provides subsidies ranging from ₹15 lakh to ₹10 crore, based on the type and scale of the project. Short films can receive up to ₹15 lakh, documentaries up to ₹40 lakh, TV serials up to ₹1 crore, web series up to ₹1.5 crore, feature films up to ₹2 crore, and international films up to ₹10 crore. However, these benefits apply only if at least 75% of the shooting takes place within Madhya Pradesh.
Encouraging Regional and Socially Impactful Cinema
A major highlight of the policy is its emphasis on regional and socially relevant cinema. Film projects in local dialects such as Baghelkhandi, Nimari, Gondi, Bhili, and Korku will receive an additional 10% financial incentive. Similarly, films focusing on children, youth, and women-centric themes—especially those promoting education and empowerment—are also eligible for this extra subsidy.
Additionally, films in Marathi, Bengali, and South Indian languages will also be entitled to a 10% incentive, expanding the state’s reach in regional cinema.
Single-Window Clearance & Infrastructure Development
To streamline the filmmaking process, the policy includes a single-window clearance system under the Public Services Guarantee Act, ensuring quick and hassle-free approvals for shooting permissions.
The policy also extends financial assistance for film studios and post-production facilities, promoting infrastructure development. Further incentives have been introduced for building new single-screen theaters and upgrading existing cinema halls to boost film exhibition across the state.
Madhya Pradesh: A Proven Film-Friendly State
Madhya Pradesh has been a popular choice for filmmakers, earning the ‘Most Film Friendly State’ award multiple times, including in 2023 and 2024. Over the past five years, more than 350 film projects have been successfully shot in the state, leading to an estimated ₹700 crore investment and generating over 1.25 lakh temporary job days.
Some of the most notable film and web series projects shot in MP include Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Stree-3, Panchayat, Kota Factory, The Railway Men, Ponniyin Selvan, Dunki, Fukrey 3, and Lapata Ladies.
With the launch of Film Tourism Promotion Policy 2025, Madhya Pradesh is set to attract even more filmmakers, solidifying its reputation as a premier destination for film and television production in India.
