The much-anticipated light and sound programme at the historic Khajuraho temples has resumed after a hiatus of one and a half years. The show, which was halted on August 20, 2023, for modernisation, made its return on Thursday, much to the delight of visitors and tourists.
According to MS Rana, Regional Manager of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department (Khajuraho), the programme has been extensively modernised with the addition of 3D projection mapping and LED lights, enhancing the beauty of the temples during the show. Rana mentioned that the new version of the show is now 35 minutes long, compared to its previous 50-minute runtime.
The English version of the show runs from 6:30 pm to 7:05 pm, followed by the Hindi version from 7:25 pm to 8:00 pm. Ticket prices have seen a slight increase, with the entry fee for adults raised from ₹250 to ₹300. For children aged 5 to 12, the ticket price is set at ₹150. Foreign tourists will now pay ₹800, up from ₹750, while their children’s tickets are priced at ₹400.
Bachchan’s Voice Remains a Major Attraction
One of the key highlights of the light and sound show is the captivating narration by Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan. His voice has been a significant draw since the programme’s launch in 2000. While officials considered using actor Ashutosh Rana’s voice for the new show, they ultimately decided to retain Bachchan’s original recordings, ensuring that his iconic voice remains a centerpiece of the experience.
The updated light and sound show, blending modern technology with cultural heritage, promises an unforgettable experience for visitors, making the Khajuraho temples even more mesmerizing at night.
