Polymatech Electronics has taken a significant step forward in India’s semiconductor sector by announcing the establishment of its second plant in Nava-Raipur, Chhattisgarh. This new facility, unveiled at the Chhattisgarh Investor Connect 2024 event, is set to bolster India’s capabilities in advanced semiconductor production, particularly for 5G and 6G technologies. The project, supported by a 40% capital subsidy from the Chhattisgarh government, represents a ₹1,143 crore investment and is expected to elevate India’s position in the global semiconductor ecosystem.
The state-of-the-art plant will focus on producing Gallium Nitride (GaN) semiconductor chips, crucial for next-generation telecommunications. These chips are essential for building base stations that support high-frequency communications for 5G and 6G networks. Additionally, the plant will include advanced packaging capabilities, with some initial chip fabrications outsourced until Polymatech’s foundry in Grenoble, France, becomes operational. The collaboration with Simply RF, a Cardiff-based company, will also enhance India’s semiconductor manufacturing expertise.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai praised the investment, noting its importance for the state’s growing manufacturing ecosystem. By attracting high-tech projects like this, the state is positioning itself as a hub for technological innovation and advanced manufacturing. The government’s proactive industrial policies, combined with Polymatech’s expertise in semiconductor technology, promise to strengthen both the local and national economies.
Eswara Rao Nandam, CEO and Managing Director of Polymatech Electronics, expressed his excitement about the new venture, stating that it aligns with the company’s goal of advancing India’s technological prowess. He emphasized the crucial role the facility will play in supporting global 5G and 6G ecosystems while contributing to the country’s digital transformation. This expansion is part of Polymatech’s broader strategy to establish India as a leader in high-tech semiconductor manufacturing.
As India continues its push toward self-reliance in critical technology sectors, Polymatech’s new facility will be instrumental in driving progress. The combination of advanced GaN semiconductor technology, a focus on telecommunications infrastructure, and the strong backing of the Chhattisgarh government, ensures that the plant will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of both India’s semiconductor industry and its digital economy.
