India has added another success story to its agricultural export journey with the first-ever commercial export of GI-tagged Rewa Sundarja Mangoes to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This milestone showcases the growing global demand for India’s premium and region-specific agricultural products while opening new opportunities for farmers in Madhya Pradesh.
The export consignment, weighing one metric tonne, was sourced from farmers in Rewa district and prepared for international markets through grading, sorting, and export-quality packaging. The shipment was facilitated by APEDA and transported via Varanasi Airport, ensuring the mangoes reached the UAE in excellent condition.
This initiative has brought significant financial benefits to local farmers. While the domestic market price of Rewa Sundarja Mangoes generally ranges between ₹100 and ₹110 per kilogram, exporters procured the fruit at around ₹150 per kilogram, providing farmers with a premium return for their produce.
Rewa Sundarja Mango is widely appreciated for its natural sweetness, rich aroma, fibreless pulp, and distinctive taste. Its Geographical Indication (GI) tag gives the variety a unique identity and enhances its recognition in international markets, making it an attractive product for global buyers.
The successful export reflects the strong collaboration between APEDA, the Madhya Pradesh Department of Horticulture, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), exporters, and local farmers. It is expected to boost India’s agricultural exports, improve farmers’ incomes, and encourage more GI-tagged products from the country to enter global markets.
