In a significant boost to India’s digital and AI ambitions, RackBank, a leading data centre infrastructure company, has inaugurated a ₹1,000 crore AI Datacentre Park in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The event, held on Saturday, marks the establishment of the state’s first dedicated data centre campus, setting the stage for transformative developments in high-performance computing and artificial intelligence.
The facility was officially launched by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, accompanied by ministers Lakhan Lal Dewangan and O.P. Choudhary. Spread over 13.5 acres, the state-of-the-art campus is equipped to support over 1,00,000 GPUs and deliver 80 megawatts (MW) of power in its first phase. Plans are already in place to scale the project up to ₹3,000 crore and 160 MW across four progressive phases.
A National Hub for AI Innovation
Positioned as a national AI infrastructure hub, the Raipur campus will cater to cutting-edge AI workloads and high-performance computing needs. According to RackBank CEO Narendra Sen, the project is in alignment with the Government of India’s IndiaAI Mission, which aims to position the country as a global leader in AI technologies. Sen emphasized the centre’s role in driving digital transformation by fostering cooperation among academia, industry, and government.
Energy-Efficient, Future-Ready Design
The facility is built using RackBank’s proprietary direct-to-chip and Varuna liquid immersion cooling systems, which are engineered to reduce cooling costs by up to 70% and optimize overall power consumption. The infrastructure is being developed to remain future-ready, aligned with Nvidia’s chip roadmap, ensuring long-term adaptability to AI hardware advancements.
Strategic Location & Economic Impact
Government officials highlighted the data park’s potential to strengthen Chhattisgarh’s technology sector, attract new investments, and generate employment. The project is expected to create 200 jobs within five years, expanding to 500 roles as operations scale. An additional 2.70 hectares of land in the Chhattisgarh Special Economic Zone (SEZ) has also been designated for the centre’s future growth.
Thanks to Raipur’s central location, the park will enable low-latency AI and cloud services across India, benefiting sectors such as healthcare, education, and agri-tech. Commerce Secretary Rajat Kumar remarked that the facility will become a digital backbone for the state, accelerating its sustainable growth through green technologies.
