In a remarkable move aimed at empowering the tribal youth of Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada and Bastar districts, the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) has teamed up with the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET) to offer free skill development training courses for 500 young individuals. This initiative, launched under NMDC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, seeks to create employment opportunities by equipping the youth with industry-relevant skills.
The training program is designed to cater to students across various qualification levels, from 8th-grade pass-outs to graduates. As part of the initiative, NMDC will fully sponsor the course fees for all 500 participants, ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent any student from accessing these valuable opportunities.
Empowering Tribal Youth with Career-Boosting Skills
The skill development courses being offered under this initiative cover a range of qualifications and are designed to prepare the students for entry into the workforce with a solid foundation in practical, industry-relevant skills. The partnership between NMDC and CIPET ensures that the students will be trained in high-demand fields, with CIPET guaranteeing 70% placement for successful candidates. After completing the courses, the students will have the potential to earn between ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per month, thereby ensuring financial stability and fostering career growth.
Boosting Local Economy and Reducing Migration
This initiative is expected to have a transformative impact on the region. With more skilled workers entering the job market, the program will not only provide stable employment but also boost industrial growth and income levels. The availability of skill-based education and subsequent job opportunities may also encourage local entrepreneurship and significantly reduce the need for youth to migrate to other regions in search of work.
An NMDC official supervising the program remarked, “By empowering local youth with skills and providing guaranteed job placements, this initiative has the potential to strengthen the region’s economy and create sustainable livelihoods for the families of Dantewada and Bastar.”
NMDC’s Continued Commitment to Social Development
This latest collaboration with CIPET reflects NMDC’s long-standing commitment to fostering employment and education opportunities in Dantewada. Over the years, NMDC has implemented several impactful programs such as Chhoo Lo Aasman, NMDC ITI Bhansi, Shiksha Sahyog Scholarship Yojana, and Balika Shiksha Yojana, which have provided education and skill development support to local youth.
With two major iron-ore complexes located in Dantewada, NMDC has been a key player in supporting the region’s development. The corporation also operates another iron-ore complex at Donimalai in Karnataka. Through its CSR initiatives, NMDC continues to demonstrate its commitment to uplifting underprivileged communities and driving economic growth in Chhattisgarh’s tribal regions.
By investing in the future of the local youth, NMDC aims to create a brighter and more prosperous future for the people of Dantewada and Bastar, ensuring that the benefits of industrial growth are shared by all sections of society.
