India’s ambition to become a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing has taken another significant step forward with Paras Semiconductor announcing plans to establish an advanced semiconductor packaging facility in Madhya Pradesh. The project, which involves an investment of ₹6,200 crore, reflects the country’s growing commitment to developing a strong domestic semiconductor ecosystem while reinforcing Madhya Pradesh’s position as an emerging destination for high-tech manufacturing. The proposed facility will be located on 50 acres of land along the strategically important Ujjain-Indore Corridor, an area that is rapidly evolving into a hub for advanced industries and technology-driven investments.
The new facility will focus on OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) operations, a critical stage in semiconductor manufacturing where chips are assembled, packaged, and tested before reaching electronics manufacturers. Although chip fabrication often receives the most attention, packaging and testing are equally essential because they determine the performance, reliability, and durability of semiconductor devices used in industries such as consumer electronics, automotive, healthcare, telecommunications, aerospace, and defence.
This investment is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening India’s semiconductor value chain. By expanding domestic packaging and testing capabilities, the project will reduce reliance on international supply chains while supporting the government’s vision of building a self-reliant technology ecosystem.
