India’s transition toward dependable renewable energy received another boost as Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMSL) issued Letters of Award to Ceigall India and ACME Solar Holdings Limited.
Each company will develop 220MW solar-plus-battery storage capacity in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh, forming a key part of the upcoming Morena solar PV park.
Reliable Renewable Power for Peak Demand
Unlike traditional solar parks that supply power only during sunlight hours, the Morena project integrates battery storage to deliver electricity when demand is highest.
The facility is designed to provide up to four hours of peak power daily with a 35% capacity utilisation factor, helping bridge the gap between daytime generation and evening consumption.
Construction is expected to begin in 2026, with commercial operations scheduled between 2027 and 2028.
Competitive Tariff and Long-Term Operation
Ceigall India secured its share of the project through tariff-based competitive bidding at ₹2.70 per kWh, indicating an overall project value of roughly ₹1,700 crore.
The plant will be built over 24 months and operate for 25 years under long-term agreements.
According to the company, hybrid solar-storage systems are essential as India moves toward its national target of 500GW non-fossil fuel capacity, ensuring renewable power remains available even after sunset.
How the Storage Model Works
The system will operate in a demand-responsive manner:
- Solar power charges batteries during the day
- Stored energy supplies evening peak demand
- The procurer provides free night power to meet the morning peak
This model reduces dependence on coal-based peaking plants and stabilizes grid supply.
Infrastructure and Policy Support
RUMSL will provide land and evacuation infrastructure above 33kV as part of the solar park ecosystem.
The project also benefits from lower GST pass-through provisions and compliance with approved domestic manufacturing norms, encouraging local supply chains.
Expanding Renewable Portfolios
Ceigall India has already expanded its solar portfolio beyond 550MW and recently secured additional projects in Maharashtra’s agricultural feeder program.
Meanwhile, Gurugram-based ACME Solar continues to scale rapidly, with over 8GW of renewable assets spanning solar, wind, hybrid and storage projects — including significant battery energy storage capacity under development.
A Step Toward Firm Renewable Energy
The Morena solar-plus-storage park reflects a broader shift in India’s clean energy strategy — from simply generating renewable power to delivering firm, dispatchable electricity.
By combining generation with storage, such projects make solar energy usable during peak consumption hours, bringing the country closer to reliable, round-the-clock green power.
