Hindustan Construction Company Ltd (HCC), in collaboration with Tata Projects Ltd, has secured a ₹2,191 crore contract from the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MPMRCL). This contract is for the construction of an 8.65-kilometer long corridor, including underground tunnels and stations, as part of the Indore Metro Phase 1 project. The venture will significantly improve the city’s infrastructure and public transportation, creating more convenient travel options for Indore’s residents.
In this joint venture, HCC holds a majority 55% stake, indicating its leadership role in the project. The contract, labeled IN-05R, represents the only underground segment of the larger 31.32-kilometer Indore Metro network. The construction will focus on key underground infrastructure, connecting important urban locations and bringing the city closer to a modern metro transportation system, in line with other major metropolitan cities in India.
The underground portion of the project will involve the construction of an 11.32-kilometer tunnel, to be created using advanced Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) technology. The project will also include the development of seven underground metro stations at critical locations, namely Indore Railway Station, Rajwada, Chota Ganpati, Bada Ganpati, Ramchandra Nagar, BSF/Kalani Nagar, and Airport. These stations will connect the metro line’s underground section between ramps located at Indore Railway Station and Airport Station, improving connectivity across the city.
HCC brings significant metro construction expertise to this project, having worked on similar large-scale infrastructure projects across India. The company is currently involved in constructing Mumbai Metro Line III, where it is building 4 kilometers of twin tunnels and four stations. Additionally, HCC is working on two packages for the Chennai Metro, demonstrating its capability in handling complex urban transportation projects across the country.
This major contract marks an important step forward in Indore’s urban development, with the metro system set to play a crucial role in enhancing public transport options and reducing traffic congestion. By securing this contract, HCC and Tata Projects are contributing to the transformation of the city’s infrastructure, making it more modern, efficient, and sustainable for the future.
