The synergy between the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) and the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board (MPTB) took center stage as they organized a dynamic day-long workshop in Bhopal recently. The objective was to propel Madhya Pradesh to greater heights in the tourism landscape by charting a path for increased foreign tourists, exploring untapped destinations, and forging valuable partnerships with airlines and hotels. This remarkable collaboration aimed to invigorate not only the state’s tourism potential but also strengthen IATO’s foothold in the region.
The workshop commenced with the distinguished Chief Guest, Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary – Tourism and Managing Director of MPTB, passionately discussing the blueprint for a thriving tourism sector. Topics ranged from cultivating new relationships and seizing investment opportunities in tourism infrastructure to fostering a well-connected hub and spoke model. Shukla showcased Madhya Pradesh’s cultural heritage, highlighting the significance of the Sanchi, Bhimbetka, and Khajuraho UNESCO World Heritage sites. Proudly declaring Gwalior as the “City of Music,” he envisioned an ecosystem that promotes rural tourism as the state’s unique identity.
Shukla underlined the urgency of collaborations with airlines and hotels, setting sights on catapulting Madhya Pradesh into a premier MICE and wedding destination, both nationally and internationally. He emphasized the need for a robust network of at least 50 formidable tour operators within the state.
Rajiv Mehra, President of IATO, resonated with Shukla’s vision and urged to amplify the promotion of Madhya Pradesh’s wildlife and cultural treasures. Focused on enhancing connectivity, Mehra revealed IndiGo’s forthcoming operations in the Khajuraho – Varanasi sector, a catalyst for tourism growth. Additionally, IATO’s collaborative efforts with airlines aimed to establish last-mile connectivity to key tourist destinations.
The event marked the appointment of Mahendra Pratap Singh as the Chairman of IATO Madhya Pradesh Chapter, further reinforcing the organization’s commitment to the state. Mehra extended a warm invitation to delegates for the upcoming 38th IATO Annual Convention in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.
The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from 125 tourism professionals from Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Senior officials from MP Tourism and IATO’s central and state committees also graced the event. With its strategic collaborations and concerted efforts, Madhya Pradesh is poised to become a prominent destination on the global tourism map, captivating travelers with its myriad cultural riches and natural wonders.
