In response to the growing global trend of sleep tourism, Madhya Pradesh Tourism (MPT) has introduced a unique wellness initiative aimed at promoting rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation for travelers. As part of this effort, MPT has established permanent tent cities at four stunning locations—Hanuwantiya, Kuno, Gandhi Sagar, and Chanderi—while plans are underway to develop similar facilities at three additional sites: Orchha, Mandu, and Tamia.

The rising popularity of sleep-focused accommodations, which prioritize sleep quality, tranquility, and immersive nature experiences, has given birth to this initiative. These tent cities offer guests a serene retreat amidst Madhya Pradesh’s natural beauty, providing the perfect setting for a restful getaway.

Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary (Tourism), emphasized that the state’s strategy involves creating new luxury glamping sites in partnership with private developers. “MP Tourism is developing glamping sites at breathtaking locations through public-private partnerships. These tent cities will provide nature lovers with immersive activities while offering a rejuvenating experience. The focus is particularly on areas near forests and natural landscapes, supporting circadian rhythms and promoting the concept of sleep tourism,” Shukla noted.

The four existing locations have already received positive feedback from visitors, many of whom report improved sleep quality and a heightened sense of relaxation. The success of these pilot sites has spurred MPT to expand the concept further, introducing more tent cities with enhanced wellness amenities in other picturesque areas.

Medical tourism experts have also praised the initiative, citing its potential benefits for individuals suffering from insomnia, stress, or chronic sleep disorders. These facilities cater to a variety of wellness seekers, from urban professionals seeking brief escapes to those looking for holistic health solutions through relaxation.

In addition to benefiting travelers, these tent cities have also had a positive impact on the local economy. Communities near the tent cities have seen an uptick in employment opportunities and economic growth, thanks to increased tourism activity. The tourism department has also implemented strict guidelines to maintain a tranquil atmosphere, including limiting the number of guests, establishing quiet hours, and controlling artificial lighting to ensure an uninterrupted sleep experience.

To further enhance the experience, MPT is designing specialized packages for different types of visitors. Corporate retreats, wellness seekers, and even travelers with specific sleep concerns will be catered to with customized offerings. The tourism department is also conducting training programs for local staff to ensure they can provide top-tier support for guests, helping them make the most of their sleep-focused stays.

By establishing these sleep tourism tent cities, Madhya Pradesh Tourism is positioning itself as a leader in the wellness tourism market. The initiative highlights the state’s natural beauty and tranquil environment, offering tourists an opportunity to unwind, recharge, and improve their overall well-being. As global interest in wellness and restorative travel grows, MPT’s innovative approach is set to attract more visitors seeking a harmonious blend of nature, luxury, and relaxation.
