Madhya Pradesh is quite literally taking its tourism to the skies! In a groundbreaking move, the state has launched India’s first government-led helicopter tourism service — a step that blends innovation, accessibility, and adventure. The initiative, inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav at Bhopal’s Raja Bhoj International Airport on the state’s 70th Foundation Day, aims to make travel within Madhya Pradesh faster, easier, and a whole lot more exciting.
A New Way to Explore the Heart of India
Imagine exploring Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Khajuraho, Mandu, Pachmarhi, and Kanha — all in one trip, without spending hours on the road. That’s exactly what this helicopter tourism service promises. Under a Public-Private Partnership with Trans Bharat Aviation and Jet Serve Aviation, the state will now offer scenic air routes connecting its top spiritual, heritage, and wildlife destinations.
The service, called PM Shri Tourism Helicopter Service, will operate five days a week starting November 20, offering curated packages that include travel, accommodation, and guided experiences. Speaking at the launch, Chief Minister Yadav shared that this move is about “bridging distances and uniting hearts,” ensuring that visitors can soak in the essence of Madhya Pradesh — from temples to tiger reserves — without the usual travel fatigue.
More Than Just Tourism
While it’s a win for travelers, the initiative is equally beneficial for locals. Faster connectivity is expected to bring more tourists to lesser-known towns and villages, creating opportunities for homestay owners, guides, artisans, and local businesses. “Helicopter tourism will serve as a catalyst for balanced economic growth and community empowerment,” said Shri Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism, Culture, and Home.
The government has also introduced air ambulance services, ensuring that even remote destinations now have access to faster medical support — a huge step forward for both tourism safety and public health.
Industry Applause
Travel experts are already calling this a game-changer. Rajeev Kale from Thomas Cook (India) noted that helicopter tourism is redefining how Indians experience destinations, combining comfort with adventure. Similarly, SOTC’s SD Nandakumar pointed out that nearly one-third of Indian travelers today prefer premium, experiential travel — and this initiative perfectly fits that growing trend.
Eyes on the Future
Adding to the excitement, Chief Minister Yadav also announced plans for a new airport in Ujjain, home to the famous Mahakaleshwar Temple. The state government hopes these efforts will help double tourist footfall by 2030 and position Madhya Pradesh as a leader in experiential travel.
From temple towns to tiger trails, and now breathtaking aerial tours — Madhya Pradesh is redefining what it means to explore the “Heart of India.” With its blend of convenience, adventure, and community upliftment, this new helicopter tourism service isn’t just about travel — it’s about transformation.
