Encouraged by the phenomenal development in visitor footfall, the Madhya Pradesh government is taking considerable steps to enhance the state’s tourism and industrial sectors. In 2023, the state’s visitor count increased significantly, reaching around 112.2 million, up from 34.1 million in 2022. To capitalize on this momentum, the government has initiated a number of programs targeted at improving both tourism and aviation connectivity.

One of the primary aims is to expand air services through the PM Shri Tourism Air Service. The plan, which has gotten favorable reaction, has announced a new flying schedule starting August 1st, 2024. This effort aims to boost regional tourism by connecting numerous significant attractions across the state.

The new flight schedule includes cluster flights connecting Khajuraho with Bhopal, Gwalior, Rewa, and Singrauli. Additionally, flights will now be accessible from Bhopal and Jabalpur to Ujjain on Sundays, as well as to Khajuraho on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

To better meet the regional tourist demands, the state has been strategically divided into five regions: Gwalior and Chambal, Baghelkhand, Bundelkhand, Mahakaushal, Malwa–Nimar, and Narmadapuram.

Updated weekly flight schedule (effective August 1st, 2024):

Monday: Bhopal – Indore – Jabalpur – Rewa – Indore – Bhopal
Tuesday: Bhopal – Jabalpur – Singrauli – Rewa – Jabalpur – Bhopal.
Wednesday: Bhopal – Khajuraho – Rewa – Singrauli – Khajuraho – Bhopal.
Thursday: Bhopal – Rewa – Khajuraho – Gwalior – Bhopal.
Saturday: Bhopal – Khajuraho – Rewa – Singrauli – Khajuraho – Bhopal.
Sunday: Bhopal – Ujjain – Jabalpur – Ujjain – Bhopal.

These new air connections give travelers with dependable, safe, and efficient travel choices, allowing tourists to better discover Madhya Pradesh’s rich cultural and historical legacy.

Madhya Pradesh also announced the hosting of formidable 39th Annual Convention of the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) in Bhopal from August 30th to September 2nd, 2024, boosting its tourist prominence even further. This important event is expected to attract over 1,000 guests, including tour operators, hotels, and other key stakeholders from around the country. The convention aims to be a watershed moment for the tourist sector, stimulating conversations, networking, and introducing new tourism options in the state.

The three-day conference, entitled “Resurgent India Inbound,” will be launched by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav at the Taj Lakefront in Bhopal. The goal will be to increase the number of foreign tourists visiting the state.

The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, headed by Additional Managing Director Ms. Bidisha Mukherjee, intends to host ten post-convention familiarization (FAM) excursions on September 1st, 2024, to highlight the state’s unique attractions. These trips, which include a historical walk and the IATO Run for Responsible Tourism aims to highlight unique and unknown areas in the state.
The Managing Director of MPSTDC, Mr. Ilayaraja T, President of IATO, Mr. Rajiv Mehra, Vice President of IATO, Mr. Ravi Gosain, and Chairman of the IATO Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh Chapter, Mr. Mahendra Pratap Singh, were among the key figures present at the curtain-raiser event on July 24th, 2024 in New Delhi

Madhya Pradesh is known for its natural beauty and cultural legacy, including 12 national parks, 25 sanctuaries, 7 tiger reserves, and 14 UNESCO World legacy Sites (11 tentative and three permanent). The state intends to use the convention to raise awareness of its existing tourism sites and create new experiences for tourists.
With these measures, the Madhya Pradesh government is establishing itself as a top destination for both domestic and foreign visitors, making the state’s rich cultural and natural legacy more accessible to a broader audience.
