A remarkable feat was achieved by five smart cities in Madhya Pradesh as they clinched a total of 13 awards across diverse categories in the recently concluded India Smart Cities Awards Contest 2022.
Undoubtedly, Madhya Pradesh’s extraordinary performance earned it the coveted Best State Award. Indore, one of the state’s shining gems, clinched the top spot in the National Smart City Award category. The applause poured in from Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who wholeheartedly congratulated both the dedicated citizens and the exceptional departmental officers of the Smart City for this resounding achievement. Urban Development and Housing Minister Bhupendra Singh extended his congratulations to the officers and staff, attributing these accolades to their relentless commitment under Chief Minister Chouhan’s visionary leadership.
The winners were unveiled on August 25 by Kunal, the Joint Secretary and Mission Director of Smart Cities Mission, a division of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs under the Government of India. Among the laurels, Smart City Indore stood out by securing five awards, while Jabalpur, Bhopal, Gwalior, and Sagar each grasped one award in the project category.
Indore’s supremacy was clearly evident, holding the premier position for the Gobardhan Bio CNG Plant under the Swachhata theme, as well as in Air Quality Improvement in Urban Environment. The city’s relentless efforts also bore fruit with awards for projects such as Ahilya One with Vertical Garden and Saraswati and Kanh Life Line in the Jal theme, alongside Rainwater Harvesting and the Rejuvenation of lakes, wells, and step wells. Furthermore, Indore achieved second place for its remarkable riverfront development project under the Built Environment Theme. Bhopal’s Sadar Manzil Restoration Project secured second place in the same category. In the economy theme, Jabalpur stood tall with the first-place award for its start-up incubation center, whereas Indore secured the second place for its commendable value capture financing efforts.
Madhya Pradesh’s smart cities have truly shone as beacons of innovation and dedication, amassing accolades that underscore their commitment to creating vibrant, sustainable urban spaces.
