Bhopal: Cyclothon held under ‘Fit India’ programme

A 15-km-long Cyclothon was held in the capital city of Bhopal on December 20, Sunday

Organized by the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, under ‘Fit India’ campaign, the cyclothon started from Lal Parade Ground after being flagged by Director General of Police-Vivek Johri at 7.30 am, with around 1 thousand cyclists participating which included players, police personnel, government officials as well as the general public.

Additional Chief Secretary Mr. ICP Kesari, Commissioner Urban Administration Mr. Nikunj Srivastava, ADG Vijay Kataria, ADG DC Sagar, Commandant Mr. Tarun Nayak, CEO Smart City Mr. Aditya Singh, DIG Irshad Vali and other officials, sports coaches and sportspersons were present on the occasion.

Senior officials along with sportspersons, sports coaches and citizens who participated in the Fit India campaign by cycling included Additional Chief Secretary  ICP Kesari, Commissioner Urban Administration  Nikunj Shrivastava, ADG Vijay Kataria, ADG DC Sagar, Commandant Tarun Naik, Director Sports and Youth Welfare Pawan Kumar Jain, Arjuna Awardee and Olympian Jaspal Rana, Mansher Singh, Rajinder Singh, GL Yadav, members of Green Planet Bicycle Rider Association and Golf Club, SSB, Home Guards and Police personnel.

Any citizen was allowed to join the cyclotron with his/ her bicycle and mask. Participation was completely free and conducted with all the guidelines and rules of COVID 19 pandemic in place.

Director Sports and Youth Welfare, Pawan Kumar Jain while addressing the participants said that cycling is not only beneficial for health and keeps us fit, it is also helpful in freeing the environment from pollution. Regular cycling also increases immunity, whose importance has been realized in COVID 19 period now, more than ever.

He also informed that Cyclothan is being organized in all the districts of the state.

15 km route started from the Lal Parade Ground, through the old Secretariat via Kali Mandir (Talaiya police station), Moti Masjid, Royal Market, Hamidia Hospital. It then reached Lalghati Chauraha and led to V.I.P. Road via Kamla Park and then Polytechnic Chauraha, Banganga Chauraha, Hotel Palash, Rangmahal Chauraha, with finally ending at the TT Nagar stadium.

The player of the Triathlon Academy, who completed the 15 km Cyclothan in the shortest time, was awarded with a memento.

A tree plantation drive was also held at the Cyclothon to promote clean and safe environment.
