In a significant boost to rail infrastructure development in central India, G R Infraprojects has emerged as the L-1 bidder for a major railway construction project awarded by West Central Railway, headquartered in Jabalpur. The project involves the construction of a new railway line between Bahari railway station and Gondawali railway station as part of a broader rail connectivity expansion initiative in Madhya Pradesh. The total bid cost of the project stands at ₹1,897.51 crore.
The scope of work under the contract is extensive and technically demanding. It includes large-scale earthwork, construction of minor and major bridges, important bridges, viaduct structures, Road Over Bridges (RCC Box type), and Road Under Bridges/LHS. In addition, the project will also feature station buildings, tunnels, and complete track work along with other allied railway infrastructure components. Such multi-disciplinary execution highlights the complexity of the project and the engineering capability required to deliver it within timelines.
This rail link is expected to significantly improve regional connectivity by integrating remote and resource-rich areas into the broader railway network. The corridor will play a crucial role in supporting passenger mobility while also enhancing freight transportation efficiency, particularly benefiting coal, mineral, and industrial movement in the region. Improved rail access is also likely to reduce logistics costs and travel time, encouraging economic activity and investment in nearby districts.
From a strategic perspective, the project strengthens the company’s position in the railway EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) segment. G R Infraprojects has been actively expanding its portfolio beyond highways into railways, metros, and urban infrastructure, and this contract further consolidates its diversification into complex transportation infrastructure projects.
Overall, the development marks another step toward strengthening India’s rail infrastructure network, improving last-mile connectivity, and supporting regional economic growth. Once completed, the new rail line will not only enhance transportation efficiency but also contribute to employment generation and long-term industrial development across the surrounding belt of Madhya Pradesh.
