Ramky Enviro Engineers (REEL) have launched Chhattisgarh’s largest solid waste management plant in Raipur which was inaugurated by chief minister Bhupesh Baghel.

REEL, one of Asia’s largest environmental solutions provider controlled by the global private equity giant KKR, has set up the plant at the cost of INR 197 crore under a 15-year contract with the Municipal Corporation of Raipur at Sakri, near city of Raipur.

The new plant has capacity to manage 700 to 1,000 tons of waste a day, with a potential to generate 12 megawatt of power and is spread across 67 acres of land, said REEL joint managing director Masood Mallick in a statement. “This facility marks as a milestone in the progress trajectory of Chhattisgarh as it holds the potential to be the state’s first waste-to-power generation plant,” he added.

“We look forward to a successful collaboration that not only provides us with a state-of-the-art solid waste management plant but also holds the potential to enable power generation that can further be utilized for the city of Raipur,” said Raipur Mayor Aijaz Dhebar.

The plant’s inauguration at the time of COVID-19 pandemic showcases hope for the human health and economy, as well as better waste management and thus ensuring cleanliness and hygiene for the people of Chhattisgarh.
