Bhopal will host a four-day Adventure Guide Training Programme and National Seminar on Adventure Tourism from March 17 to 20, 2026. The programme is being organised by the Ministry of Tourism (West & Central Region), Government of India in collaboration with the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI). The initiative aims to strengthen safety standards, build professional capacity and encourage collaboration within India’s rapidly expanding adventure tourism sector.
The first three days of the event, from March 17 to 19, will focus on an intensive Adventure Guide Training Programme. The training is being supported by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board and the Madhya Pradesh Eco Tourism Board. It is designed for professionals engaged in trekking, mountaineering and water-based adventure activities, with a strong focus on safety and preparedness in outdoor environments.
During the training, participants will be introduced to key aspects such as wilderness medical response, emergency preparedness and risk management in remote adventure locations. The sessions aim to equip guides and adventure professionals with the knowledge and practical skills required to handle challenging situations and ensure the safety of travellers.
The training will be conducted by VIVO Healthcare and EKO India. VIVO Healthcare will lead modules on First Aid, CPR and Basic Life Support. The sessions will focus on medical response in remote areas and will use simulation-based training to prepare participants to deal with life-threatening emergencies effectively.
EKO India will conduct sessions related to outdoor leadership and environmental safety. The modules will cover risk mitigation strategies, wildlife awareness, snake rescue techniques, bird identification and safe management of human–wildlife interactions. These sessions are designed in line with internationally accepted safety standards followed in adventure tourism.
By the end of the training programme, participants are expected to develop practical capabilities in trauma assessment, wilderness medical response, evacuation planning and safety protocol implementation. These skills will enable them to act as trained first responders and responsible leaders while conducting adventure tourism activities.
The programme will conclude on March 20 with a half-day seminar titled “Adventure Strategy for a New Era.” The seminar will bring together tour operators, adventure clubs, training organisations, policymakers and industry experts to discuss the future of adventure tourism in India.
Discussions during the seminar will focus on strengthening safety frameworks and improving risk management practices in adventure tourism. Participants will also explore governance and regulatory mechanisms for adventure activities, alignment with international safety standards, and the role of technology and artificial intelligence in enhancing tourism experiences.
The seminar will also examine policy support, investment opportunities and destination development required to accelerate the growth of adventure tourism in the country. A high-level panel discussion will provide a platform for industry leaders and government representatives to exchange ideas and collaborate on the future roadmap of the sector.
Around 100 stakeholders are expected to attend the event, including ATOAI member operators, adventure clubs, training institutes, eco-tourism stakeholders and hospitality partners. Representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board and the Madhya Pradesh Eco Tourism Board will also participate in the programme.
Through initiatives like this, the Ministry of Tourism and ATOAI aim to promote capacity building, encourage safety-focused practices and strengthen collaboration across the adventure tourism industry, further positioning India as a responsible and competitive destination for adventure travel.
