The foundation stone ceremony of the Indore-Pithampur Economic Corridor (IPEC) held in Nainod village on Sunday marked an important moment for Madhya Pradesh’s industrial future. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav formally launched the ambitious project, which is expected to strengthen connectivity, attract industries, and accelerate economic growth in the Indore region. The event was attended by several senior leaders, including Kailash Vijayvargiya, Tulsiram Silawat, Shankar Lalwani, and Madhu Verma.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said the corridor would become a driving force behind the state’s industrial transformation. He described the project as a major step toward making Indore a globally recognized industrial and business destination. According to the Chief Minister, the project is designed not only to improve transportation and logistics but also to create a complete ecosystem for industries, technology companies, and commercial investment.
The project gained momentum after the state government revised compensation arrangements for farmers affected by land acquisition. Officials stated that increasing the compensation share helped build trust among farmers, leading to wider support for the project. During the event, the Chief Minister distributed allotment letters for developed plots to farmers and landowners, highlighting the government’s effort to involve local communities in the development process.
A brief moment of tension occurred before the Chief Minister’s arrival when the main entrance gate at the venue collapsed unexpectedly. The incident caused temporary chaos among workers and officials, but authorities quickly managed the situation and restored the structure with the help of machinery. No injuries were reported.
The Indore-Pithampur Economic Corridor is planned as a modern industrial corridor equipped with advanced urban infrastructure. The proposed development includes underground utility systems, logistics hubs, metro connectivity provisions, dedicated industrial zones, IT and Fintech spaces, data centers, semiconductor units, hotels, and commercial establishments. The government also announced plans to establish a Fintech City in Indore, inspired by similar developments in Gujarat, to encourage innovation and technology-driven businesses.
The corridor will create direct connectivity between the Super Corridor near Indore Airport and the Pithampur industrial region, which is already known as a major manufacturing hub. By linking important industrial zones with highways and logistics networks, the project is expected to improve supply chain efficiency and reduce transportation challenges for industries operating in the region.
Officials stated that the corridor project includes the construction of a 20-kilometer-long road network spread across more than 1300 hectares. The estimated cost of the project is around ₹2360 crore. A wide central roadway along with future expansion zones has been planned to support increasing industrial activity and urban growth in the coming years.
The government believes the project could attract investments worth thousands of crores and generate nearly one lakh employment opportunities. With improved infrastructure and industrial expansion, Indore’s economic output is also expected to rise significantly in the future.
Following the ceremony, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan were scheduled to address the media in Indore regarding the upcoming BRICS agriculture ministers’ meeting. The international-level event is expected to further highlight Indore’s growing importance on the national and global stage.
The Indore-Pithampur Economic Corridor is now being seen as one of Madhya Pradesh’s most ambitious infrastructure projects, with the potential to reshape the state’s industrial identity and position Indore as a key center for investment, manufacturing, and innovation.
